Summary

A compact cordless 3-inch mini cutter for one-handed cutting and grinding in tight spaces, built on the WORX 20V Power Share battery platform. Check the price before you buy: WORX direct lists the kit at $89.99, Acme Tools at $119.99.

Strengths

  • One-handed operation at 2.4 lbs with battery, in the gap between a rotary tool and a full-size 4-1/2 in. angle grinder.
  • 19,000 RPM no-load speed, and the 3/8-in. spindle takes any 3-inch disc, not just WORX brand.
  • The kit is a complete starter package: battery, charger, three cutting discs and a grinding disc.
  • Three-year limited warranty, above average for this tool class.
  • Lock-on switch for longer cuts.
  • The Power Share battery works across WORX 20V, 40V and 80V tools.

Weaknesses

  • Brushed motor, not brushless, with no published wattage or torque figure.
  • The 1.5 Ah compact battery limits runtime, and WORX publishes no runtime or cuts-per-charge estimate.
  • No dust collection port; Pro Tool Reviews warns that concrete cutting produces silica dust the tool cannot extract.
  • No independent instrumented test, lab review or dedicated owner thread exists for this model.
  • WORX’s brand-level Trustpilot ratings skew negative on customer service, which says little about this tool.
  • The same kit costs $119.99 at Acme Tools versus $89.99 at WORX direct.

Cutting and grinding in tight spaces

Pro Tool Reviews, in a July 2019 written review, found the tool cuts ceramic tile, slate, plastic, aluminum, sheet metal and copper pipe. The review positioned it against the Dremel Saw-Max and the SMC Mastermind 3-inch saw, noting one-handed operation and portability as its primary advantages. Retailer listing snippets call it “a beast when you need precision cutting in tight spots” and “super lightweight.” The 19,000 RPM is a no-load speed; no loaded RPM, torque or cutting-speed-under-load figure exists from WORX or any independent source. Thin discs improve runtime, according to the review.

Battery and runtime

The kit’s 1.5 Ah compact battery is the runtime limit. WORX publishes no runtime estimate or cuts-per-charge figure, and a compact cell runs materially shorter than the larger Power Share batteries sold separately. Retailer listing snippets note the lock-on switch is useful for longer cuts.

Guards, dust and safety

Two guards cover the different disc types: a metal grinding guard rated to 1000°F and a plastic cutting guard rated to 205°F, both with tool-less adjustment. Using the wrong guard for the disc type is a safety issue. There is no dust collection port, and Pro Tool Reviews warns that concrete cutting produces silica dust the tool is not designed to extract. The manual states the tool is intended for cutting, roughing and brushing metal and stone without water; it is not a wet-cutting tool. WORX notes it may cut through wood with a wood cutting blade, but no wood blade is included and that is not a primary use.

Price and where to buy

WORX direct lists the kit at $89.99 and the bare WX801L.9 at $89.99 regular. Acme Tools lists the kit at $119.99, and the WORX power-tool category page also shows $119.99. Pro Tool Reviews listed the kit at $79.99 and the bare tool at $61.04 in 2019; those are historical prices, not current ones.

Is it worth it?

For owners already in the WORX Power Share ecosystem, the kit at $89.99 is a reasonable addition for occasional light cutting, and the 3-year warranty plus the included battery and charger add value. For buyers comparing across brands, the brushed motor, small battery, lack of dust collection and absence of independent testing make it harder to justify above $110. At $119.99 it faces stronger competition from larger brushless cordless angle grinders like the WORX WX812L at $189.99.

Which model this is

This page covers the WORX 20V Power Share 3-inch Mini Cutter, model WX801L (kit) or WX801L.9 (bare tool), also marketed as the “Chopper” and “Mini Angle Cutter”. The “.9” suffix means bare tool. Do not confuse it with the WX812L 4-1/2-inch angle grinder, the WX803.9 125mm angle grinder, or the older WX801 and WX801.9 non-Power-Share variants. The Amazon US listing for the kit is ASIN B07RPPH82W.
