Summary
A tiny plug-in indoor/outdoor camera with sharp 2.5K video, color night vision, a spotlight, a siren and subscription-free 24/7 recording to a microSD card. Check your Wi-Fi and your power before buying: it runs on 2.4 GHz only and needs an outlet, and outdoor mounting requires Wyze’s separate outdoor power adapter.
Strengths
- 2.5K video and color night vision that reviewers found competitive with pricier cameras.
- 24/7 continuous recording to a microSD card works without a subscription.
- Spotlight, siren and two-way audio in a body you can mount almost anywhere.
- Local storage keeps basic monitoring working even if you never pay for a plan.
- The Wi-Fi 6 radio is a step up from older Wyze cams.
Weaknesses
- 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only; Wi-Fi 6 does not mean dual-band here.
- 20 fps by day and 15 fps at night looks less fluid than 30-fps cameras in fast motion.
- Plug-in power only, and outdoor use needs Wyze’s separate adapter despite the IP65 body.
- Cloud event history and the richer person/package/pet detections sit behind the paid plan.
- No Apple HomeKit support.
- Owners report cameras dropping offline, microSD playback vanishing and firmware updates failing; reports are mixed and no failure rate is published.

Image quality and frame rate
Tom’s Guide’s hands-on test found daylight and low-light footage unusually crisp for the money, with useful WDR, accurate motion tracking and clear two-way audio. The trade-off is motion rendering: at 20 fps by day and 15 fps at night, fast-moving subjects stutter where 30-fps cameras stay smooth. PCWorld reached a similar conclusion about the hardware and noted the free tier is much less useful for cloud workflows than the paid plan.
Storage: the card matters
A microSD card records continuously without any monthly fee, and that is the core of this camera’s value. Continuous writing is hard on cards, so fit a high-endurance card and keep an eye on it; owners report cards occasionally dropping out or playback disappearing, sometimes fixed by a reboot or reformat. Wyze’s own documentation disagrees about the maximum card size — the support article says 256 GB while product pages say 512 GB — so treat the lower figure as the safe assumption.
Reliability: read this before you buy
Across owner threads from 2024 through 2026, v4 cameras show a recurring pattern of going offline, live streams hanging, microSD playback dropping out and firmware updates failing, sometimes while older v3 units on the same network keep working. Plenty of owners also run stable fleets, and nobody has published a failure rate, so weigh this as a software and connectivity risk rather than a verdict on the hardware. For a security-critical spot, do not make this camera your only layer; keep current stable firmware, strong 2.4 GHz coverage and an outlet you can reach for the occasional hard reboot.
Is it worth it?
For a garage, a pet camera or multi-room coverage on a budget, this is a lot of camera for the money. Wyze listed a single unit at $44.98 on 2026-10-04, with the outdoor adapter at $19.98 and microSD cards from $18.98, and Cam Plus at $2.99 a month per camera (Tom’s Guide, 2024) if you want cloud clips and richer detections. For one camera that must stay dependable at all times, spend more on a more mature platform; resolution is not the weak point here, software and connectivity are.
Which model this is
This page covers the Wyze Cam v4, model WYZEC4, ASIN B0CJ9YX7DG. Retailers also sell a grey finish under model WYZEC4GY. Don’t confuse it with the older Cam v3, which has lower resolution and the same 2.4 GHz-only radio.
