Power and cold weather

Wyze rates the Solar Cam Pan 2K at up to 2–6 months of battery life off power, and at continuous operation with as little as 1 hour of direct sunlight per day. Charging from empty over the included USB-C cable takes 4–6 hours, and the 5V/2A adapter is not in the box. Keep the panel clean and clear of shade, snow and leaves, face it south and tilt it about 30° in the Northern Hemisphere for the best winter output. Solar charging pauses below 32°F (0°C) to protect the battery, so the panel tops up more slowly in a cold snap and the battery drains faster in the cold. Continuous microSD recording is only supported when the camera is connected to 5V/2A AC power, not on solar alone.

The recall you need to know about

The earlier Solar Cam Pan was recalled because an installation mistake could puncture the lithium-ion battery casing with long flat-head wood screws used to attach the solar panel bracket, creating a fire and burn risk. The 2K model is not part of that recall; it ships with revised instructions, redesigned screw packaging, fail-safe screw types, and warning labels on the camera body and brass inserts. Wyze offered refunds, gift cards or a Battery Cam Pro with solar panel to owners of the affected earlier units. If you are buying used or old stock, check the model version in the app — the 2K shows Model Version 1.1 and the original shows 1.0 — and confirm it is not an affected earlier unit.

Alerts and storage

AI person tracking is included without a subscription, which is unusual for Wyze cameras that often push person detection into Cam Plus. The camera takes a microSD card of 8–32 GB in FAT32 or up to 512 GB in exFAT for local clips; cloud storage needs a Wyze Services plan. Cam Plus is listed at $2.99 a month per camera after a 30-day free trial, but it is not required for person tracking or local recording. Motion detection reaches up to 30 ft when the camera is mounted 8 ft high and tilted 30° down.

Is it worth it?

Wyze.com lists the 1-pack at a regular $79.98 and a deal price of $64.98, with the 2-pack at $127.98 and the 3-pack at $189.98 on the same promotion. PCWorld named the earlier Solar Cam Pan an Editors’ Choice at the same $79.98 in January 2026. The value here rests on the integrated solar panel, 2K resolution and free person tracking rather than on independent testing, because no lab has instrumented the exact 2K model. If you want a wire-free pan-tilt camera and the panel gets sun, the deal pricing is easier to justify than the regular price.
