Summary
The Wyze Video Doorbell Pro is a budget battery-or-wired doorbell camera with 1440 × 1440 square video, a wide 150° × 150° view and an included plug-in chime that doubles as a Wi-Fi extender. Two things decide whether it fits: you cannot use an existing mechanical doorbell chime, and the six-month battery claim is optimistic, with a heavy-use test measuring far faster drain.
Strengths
- Free viewing of 12-second event clips with no subscription.
- The included chime is a dual-band Wi-Fi extender, which Wyze links to faster notifications and lower battery drain.
- Reviewers called daytime video sharp for the price, with accurate motion classification once Cam Plus was active.
- The tall 150° × 150° view shows a caller head to toe and most of the porch and yard.
- The adhesive-plate install needs no screws.
- Hardwiring adds 3–6 seconds of pre-roll and removes recharge downtime.
Weaknesses
- Battery life falls well short of the six-month claim: a heavy-use test lost 20% every two days, and owners reported rapid drain.
- The free tier records only 12 seconds per event with a 5-minute cooldown, so a second event a minute later is missed.
- There is no local storage and no HomeKit support.
- An existing mechanical or electronic house chime cannot be used.
- The battery is not replaceable, and charging means taking the whole doorbell off its mount over micro-USB.
- Reviewers disagree on package detection, with one reporting frequent false positives and another none; the video also has fish-eye distortion and no HDR for direct sunlight.

Battery life and cold weather
Battery life is where the marketing and the measurements diverge most. Wyze claims up to six months, or 3–6 months with normal use. A heavy-use test lost 20 percent of charge every two days, extrapolating to under two weeks per full charge, and estimated four to six weeks at more standard usage. Early owners on Wyze’s forum reported similar patterns, including one unit dropping from 100 to 88 percent over a weekend, another going from 100 to 83 percent in about four days, and one measuring 86 to 67 percent in 24 hours with Power Save off. Wyze’s own support site carries a per-model article titled “My Wyze Video Doorbell Pro’s battery life is poor.” The battery is a non-removable 2 × 3250 mAh pack, so degradation is not owner-fixable, and cold accelerates discharge, which matters against an operating floor of -4 °F.
The chime, the app and what the subscription buys
The genuinely important included item is the chime. Wyze positions it as a dual-band Wi-Fi extender that stays connected to both the router and the doorbell, and the company claims this produces faster notifications than typical battery doorbells while also conserving doorbell battery. Wyze’s own troubleshooting guidance treats chime placement as the first fix for poor signal and offline status, and one review’s setup guidance assumes the chime within about 30 feet of the router. If the chime is unplugged or placed badly, the product degrades.
Free cloud viewing is the other real advantage: 12-second event clips are stored and viewable without a subscription, unlike cloud viewing on several rivals. What you give up is the 5-minute cooldown between free recordings, a gap a reviewer called out directly, noting a porch thief arriving a minute after a delivery would not be recorded. Cam Plus removes the cooldown, extends clips up to 180 seconds and adds cloud person, pet, package and vehicle detection. Detection quality is the one thing reviewers rated highly on evidence: one reviewer’s four test events were all classified correctly, and another found motion alerts swift and accurate. Package detection is the exception, with one reviewer reporting frequent false positives and another none, so treat it as a known risk rather than a settled feature.
Hardwiring and installation
Hardwiring is the better configuration and is underused. Wyze specifies 16–24 V, and its support article asks for 16–24 V 10 VA. Hardwired power adds 3–6 seconds of pre-roll so the camera catches someone approaching rather than only the back of their head, and it removes the recharge downtime that comes with taking the whole unit off its mount to feed the micro-USB port. The mount is a snap-on plate held by screws or adhesive, and the adhesive-only option is easier to remove, which the reviews flag as a theft exposure.
Security and privacy
One brand-level fact belongs in any recommendation. A major review outlet stopped reviewing and recommending Wyze devices in 2024 after reported security and privacy failures, including incidents where user camera feeds were exposed and a known vulnerability that went undisclosed for roughly three years, and it withdrew this model’s rating before reinstating it in May 2026 after Wyze strengthened its security posture and became more transparent about incidents. Another outlet records Wyze’s AES-128 encryption, per-device keys, two-factor authentication, and the fact that recorded video on Wyze’s cloud servers can be reached by executive-level management in rare cases such as a subpoena. Wyze also discontinued security updates for its original WyzeCam after five years, which is the relevant precedent for how long this model will be supported.
Is it worth it?
At its original budget pricing the hardware-plus-chime package is hard to argue with, and it is still defensible for someone who wants the widest view and free cloud viewing. Pay much more than that and the comparison set is crowded with newer doorbells, including Wyze’s own, and this model’s micro-USB charging, non-replaceable battery, 5-minute free-tier cooldown and lack of local storage get harder to excuse. The subscription is what turns a cheap device into a subscription product: the annual price has roughly doubled since the early reviews, so put that line item in the math rather than treating it as optional. It is a poor fit if you want to keep an existing mechanical chime, need local storage, or live somewhere cold enough that the operating floor and faster discharge work against you.
Which model this is
This page covers the Wyze Video Doorbell Pro, part number WVDPC. The Amazon listing for the bundle with the chime is ASIN B09JF9RJG3. It is not the original hardwired Wyze Video Doorbell (1080 × 1440, wired only, no 5 GHz), and not the newer Wyze Battery Video Doorbell (1536 × 1536). Retailer bundles differ: doorbell-only, doorbell plus chime, and doorbell plus hardwiring kit configurations all exist, and the battery-only variant uses a different retail part number.
