Problems, parts and running costs

Summary

A 1,350 W countertop griddle with a 19 × 12-1/2 in cast-aluminum plate, a temperature dial built into a detachable plug and a full-width lid, aimed at cooks who want one large heated surface for pancakes, eggs and a full breakfast. Check grease handling before you buy: there is no drain hole and no grease tray, so fat pools on the plate and you pour it off by hand.

Strengths

  • Good Housekeeping’s lab found even, powerful heating, with little to no patchy browning on food.
  • 19 × 12-1/2 in of surface took about 12 slices of toast in that test.
  • Reached 375°F in six minutes, faster than the Wolf Gourmet in the same test.
  • Food released easily and left no staining, and the plate and body guard go straight into the sink.
  • Zojirushi still sells the exact plate, lid and cord with temperature control plug as replacement parts.
  • Owners name even heat first; Walmart’s owner comments for this model lead with even heat distribution and large surface area.

Weaknesses

  • No drain hole and no grease tray — the only one of the 12 griddles Good Housekeeping tested without one, so bacon grease pools with nowhere to go.
  • 425°F is 25°F below the 450°F the Wolf Gourmet reached in that same test, which limits high-heat searing.
  • Not dishwasher safe, and the manual rules out abrasive cleanser, scouring powder, and nylon or metal brushes.
  • Vinegar, soy sauce and salt residue corrodes the coating, so the plate needs cleaning right after salty or acidic food.
  • Deep-fry cooking is prohibited, and the plate must never go on a stovetop burner.
  • The 6'6" cord is short for a 23.6-inch appliance.

Heat and preheat

Good Housekeeping’s Institute lab is the one instrumented test of this exact model. They ran 12 electric griddles through a published method: a full surface of bread slices for heat evenness, burgers seared to 160°F internal for browning, and pancakes for release. This griddle came out on top of that field. It stood out for even, powerful heating, food showed little to no patchy browning, it hit 375°F in six minutes, and it held about 12 slices of toast. Despite its footprint it did not feel bulky or heavy.

That result is mid-pack on preheat and below the field on peak heat. The Wolf Gourmet they also tested took ten minutes to reach the same 375°F but topped out at 450°F, and the Bella XL preheated in five minutes. Owners describe the same evenness. One Best Buy purchaser calls it the most even griddle they have tested, and one Walmart owner says it takes some time to heat up but is very good once preheated. Against that, the same owner pool includes a verified buyer who found it not hot enough for the tortilla warming they bought it for, and another who called the lid a toy lid. Nobody has published a temperature-variance figure for this plate, so treat evenness as something you can feel rather than a number you can check.

Grease, cleaning and the coating

Fat has nowhere to go. There is no drain hole, drain or grease tray, and Good Housekeeping found that unusual among the 12 models they tested; bacon grease just sits on the plate. Their workaround is to cook everything except bacon first, then the bacon, let the griddle and grease cool, pour the grease off and clean. Seller copy promising a slide-out drip tray for this model is describing a different appliance.

Cleaning is hand work. Use mild kitchen detergent and a sponge, never its rough side, and no abrasive cleanser, scouring powder, nylon or metal brush or eraser pad. Let the plate dry completely before storing it. The manual warns that food left on the surface, or residue from vinegar, salt or soy sauce, corrodes the coating and cooks unevenly, and it says the coating may eventually discolor or peel without affecting cooking performance or sanitary properties. Deep-fry cooking is prohibited. So is putting the plate on a stovetop burner, which can peel or corrode the coating and deform the plate. Keep the air holes under the body guard clear, and do not run it on glass, carpet, cushions or a tablecloth.

Parts and warranty

This is where the machine is better than its price suggests. Zojirushi sells the exact plate (BG197810GC-00, $80.50), the lid (BG197800GC-02, $40.80) and the power cord with temperature control plug (BX145801A-00, $43.35) at those figures on its own store in October 2026. There are no proprietary consumables, so nothing pulls you back to the brand.

The catch is the warranty. It runs one year from the date of retail purchase, covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship, pays shipping but not packaging, and requires a receipt plus a Return Authorization Number. It also excludes power cords and plugs along with disposable parts. That plug is your temperature dial, and the manual tells you to pull it out after every use, so it is the part most likely to fail outside warranty. A replacement cord with plug runs $43.35 from Zojirushi. The plate at $80.50 is roughly 44% of the unit price, so one dropped or burnt plate is a real cost to plan for.

Is it worth it?

It depends what you pay for it. Zojirushi’s own store listed the machine at $184.99 and out of stock in October 2026, Best Buy’s page for the same model showed $169.99 and unavailable, and Target’s exact-model page listed $184.99, with Everything Kitchens matching that figure. Check the store panel above for what it goes for today.

Under about $120 the deal is straightforward: lab-verified evenness plus an $80.50 replacement plate is hard to argue with. From $121 to $150 you are paying for the 19 × 12-1/2 in surface, the lid and the immersible plate and guard, against cheaper rivals — Good Housekeeping’s value pick from the same test was a $50 Dash griddle that scored highest on cleanability, and Wirecutter recommends the Presto 22-inch Slimline for heating up quickly and evenly on a large surface. Neither was the Zojirushi. Past about $185 nothing in the documentation improves on the base unit for griddling.

Which model this is

This page covers the Zojirushi Gourmet Sizzler Electric Griddle, model EA-DCC10, in the Stainless Brown (-XJ) color variant. Retailers fold the color code into the model number, so Best Buy lists the same machine as EA-DCC10XJ. Walmart carries it under the name “Gourmet d’Expert Electric Griddle,” which is retailer naming drift on one model number rather than a different product. The listing this page covers is ASIN B00G2TVNCC.

Do not confuse it with the sibling EA-BDC10 Gourmet Sizzler, whose cooking surface is 14-1/8" × 13-1/8 in and which takes the separately sold EA-YBC01 takoyaki plate, or with Zojirushi’s 220 V griddles sold in other markets. Whether Zojirushi ever revised EA-DCC10 mechanically during its US run is not documented on the product page, the store page or the manual.
